This summer, Carter Weaver joined Mechanics Bank as an intern, eager to gain hands-on experience with an organization he was already familiar with. Having previously banked with Mechanics, the opportunity to intern close to home while learning more about the financial industry made it an easy decision.
Throughout his internship, Carter has had the opportunity to rotate through multiple departments, giving him a well-rounded perspective of how the bank operates. One of his biggest takeaways has been recognizing the many moving parts that work together behind the scenes to serve customers and support the organization’s success. While each department has its own unique responsibilities and processes, he quickly learned that every team shares the same commitment to delivering exceptional service and contributing to Mechanics Bank’s overall mission.
Among his favorite experiences has been collaborating on an artificial intelligence project with fellow intern Addy and Marketing Specialist Jameson. The project provided an opportunity to explore emerging technology and better understand its potential applications within the banking industry. Carter also enjoyed spending time with the Mortgage Lending team, where he gained insight into the personalized approach required to meet each customer’s unique financial goals.
Beyond expanding his knowledge of banking, the internship has helped Carter develop professionally by strengthening his understanding of workplace communication, collaboration, and office culture. It has also encouraged him to be more curious, ask thoughtful questions, and learn from the experiences of employees across the organization.
For future interns, Carter encourages embracing every opportunity to learn. Whether it’s asking questions, exploring different departments, or stepping outside of your comfort zone, he believes the best internship experiences come from being engaged and taking advantage of every opportunity to better understand how the organization operates.
